This is a typical farm with large open spaces, outbuildings, streams and dams. What sets this farm apart for me, is the accommodation which was recently upgraded and the beautiful manicured gardens. On arrival you immediately get a welcoming feeling, this farm would not only be a good weekend getaway, but could be a great permanent residence.
The farm is 87 hectares, located 23km from Dullstroom on the Tonteldoos dirt road. The farmhouse and cottage are set in the garden, both were stylishly renovated in 2015 while retaining the ‘rustic farm feel’. The farmhouse features a lovely full length veranda, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and spacious, open plan living area. The cottage, located close to the farmhouse, has two bedrooms, one bathroom and fireplace in the lounge. All the bedrooms, for both the farmhouse and cottage, have double doors out onto the covered verandas.
Water on the property includes three trout dams, with the largest measuring one hectare, and two streams flowing through the farm.
Various outbuildings including two sheds and large closed garage.
The lovely, established garden features neat lawn areas, many fruit trees and existing vegetable garden. There are several enclosed camps on the property, including a separate stone kraal. The farm has approximately 45 hectares of arable land.

Teal and Trout is a country estate of 970 hectares, situated 8 kms off the N4, featuring trout fishing in any one of 18 dams and 6 weirs as well as a variety of game that wander over the entire Estate. There are only 40 one hectare stands making it one of the most exclusive estates in the area. Only 18 of the stands have been built on at this stage. The Estate is pet friendly and the levies are approx. R3 350
There are currently three established homes on the market:
ZH186 – R 2,900,000 modern home, with four en suite bedrooms, large open plan living area, and spacious covered veranda. (SOLE MANDATE)
ZH282 – R 2,600,000 modern, spacious home with floor to ceiling glass offering amazing views. It has three en-suite bedrooms, an open plan living area that opens out onto the veranda and overlooks the Estate dams.
ZH247 – R 2,200,000 This upmarket, double story five bedroom house is positioned on arguably one of the most private stands on the estate. It effectively has it’s own dam and is within walking distance of another five dams.
The alternative would be to buy a stand and build. There are developer stands that range in price from R 95,000 to R 700 000 and another four resale stands.

Adventures for Love is a group of twelve ladies who have very ordinary corporate type day jobs, but who also love adventures, use this as an opportunity to get sponsorships and raise funds for good causes. It all started in 2010 when, shortly after turning 40, Jenny decided she needed to do something different with her life so she and Desiree climbed Kilimanjaro. This created a whole new lifestyle for them both and the following year they embarked on the next adventure, by walking the Great Wall of China to raise funds for cancer and a child related project – School of Achievement and Cloud dog.
Adventure was now eating away at them and since then they have undertaken one major “adventure” a year to raise funds – and hence the evolution of “Adventures for Love”. Every year they embark on the adventure of the year. They have done Maccha Pichu and canoed almost 100km down the Zambezi River.
They have walked 101km through the Namaqualand Desert, climbed to Poon Hill in the Himalayas, experienced Sutherland in winter, done 200km of the Camino in Spain and a wine and whale walk in the Western Cape.
Every month they also come together to make good use of the funds and to give a day of their time and energy enriching the lives of the less fortunate. They have created vegetable gardens, painted, and decorated communal lounges
Funds raised have been used towards School of Achievement, Hospice East Rand, Abraham Kriel, Huis Bethlehem, Little Angels, Cosmo City, Ventersdorp Old Age Home and the Bavumeleni Creche in Khayelitsha. One year they raised almost R100 000 for a deposit for a new anti-poaching vehicle for the Conservation of Lower Zambezi.
But most exciting is that their major adventure for 2017 is going to focus around Dullstroom and Belfast charities. They will challenge themselves to an “Amazing Race” en route to Dullstroom but will then give one day of their time to projects at the Old Age Home in Belfast, a second day to the Children’s Home in Belfast and a third day to the Sakhelwe Creche here in Dullstroom. They will also be sponsoring a day of sterilizations in Sakhelwe.
They welcome any and every bit of input from locals to either join them on the day to help with the project, to supply materials or to make a donation that would be used to help fulfil the “wish list” of the charity…. or all three! This will all be happening between 28 July to 31 July 2017. Please contact Zest for more details 013 254 0219 firstname.lastname@example.org
When analysing the four most important criteria, that most people list as their requirements for the ideal farm in Dullstroom, they would say the following:
LOCATION – we would like to be close enough to town that we can happily go in for a meal, meander around the shops or watch rugby in a pub. But we also want all the pleasures associated with a farm lifestyle.
WATER – fishing is an absolute essential when we think of Dullstroom and ideally that means a dam or two to throw a trout line …. and a river would be a real bonus.
THE HOUSE – that must be in keeping with a country styled house but with the mod cons and preferably without a long list of maintenance and upgrades attached.
REVENUE – we would not be using it every weekend so it would be really useful if we could possibly get some sort of income from weekend rentals to help cover the costs.
We have three recently listed, unique farms that perfectly match all or most of these criteria:
ZF288 – 72 hectares with a beautiful dam of 2,4 hectares, a stretch of the Crocodile river with 4 weirs, a beautifully renovated original farmhouse with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Plus a two bedroom home and numerous outbuildings built from the original stone and all within a kilometre of town. Click here for the full details.
ZF289 – 62 hectares with a 3 hectare dam, a double storey four bedroom, four bathroom house, with excellent views and with outbuildings, within three kilometres of town. Click here for the full details.
ZF290 – 166 hectares with 2 large dams of 4,5 and 2,1 hectares, within three kilometres of town. A five bedroom, five bathroom home with a games room and storerooms. Click here for the full details.
Amazing. This quality of farms are very seldom seen on the market. Give us a ring for more details 013 254 0219
Trish grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe and went to school there. She went back to Zimbabwe to get married, after qualifying for her degree at the Cape Town University. Together with her husband, they went through the Rhodesian terrorist war, but soon after their first child was born, they emigrated to South Africa, to a farm outside of Dullstroom.
In between raising three, wonderful children, they ran a trout processing factory on the farm for many years. They also built the “Owl & Oak Trading Post” on their farm, which was later converted to Dullstroom Country Cottages and offers weekend accommodation. Trish worked alongside her husband turning a very beautiful farm into what it is today.
Trish has been in Dullstroom for 35 years. Embarrassingly she still does not speak understandable Afrikaans. Her farm upbringing has given her a broad appreciation and knowledge of farming generally, so she can happily navigate the site visits to local farms.
Twelve years ago, together with two friends, she started Zest which has grown to dominate the Dullstroom market consistently for many years.
She is in the process of completing a yearlong Business Owner Development Programme run by Ieasa, that is specific to Estate Agencies. This and other courses reinforce her principles that honesty, integrity and commitment are key to being an estate agent. “Buying or selling a property has huge financial, practical and emotional implications and as an agent we owe both buyers and sellers the time and information to buy or sell wisely”.
Trish loves travelling and will take on any adventure. Here are a few snippets:
• They sailed across from the mainland Tanzania to Zanzibar in a dhou with a local, a four-hour trip with no apparent navigation tools. This was part of a six-week camping trip thru Africa.
• Boating along the Amazon River, climbing to the ice cap of Cotapaxi and canyoning the waterfalls of Banos.
• 5500 stair climb up to Adams Peak in Sri Lanka, to experience an amazing sunrise.
• White water rafting on the Kavanga River with friends and family.
With her extensive local knowledge, Trish will be sure to help with any property needs.

To date she has sold 11 stands, 8 houses and 2 farms, of which the greatest achievement was a farm with the value of R8,650,000.
Here is Haideé’s take on Zest as a company, “The Zest Team is like family and we all strive towards upholding our high standards which includes integrity, honesty and building strong relationships with both sellers and buyers. Since charity starts at home we are actively involved with local charities in the area. My recipe for success includes the values of our company, hard work and of course a lot of good wine!”

Although Del-Monte was born in the very small town of Smithfield in the Free State, he grew up in Margate on the Natal South Coast. He was never a surfer boy though, nearly drowning at his first attempt. He much preferred to play rugby on terra firma.
After school, he studied law in Pretoria and obtained his law degree in 1991. After a 12 year career as State Prosecutor with the Department of Justice, and a short stint in sports equipment marketing, Del-Monte joined Zest in August 2006.
When he is not assisting clients with their property related needs, you will find him on his mountain bike in the Dullstroom countryside, or out on the fairways of Highland Gate Golf Estate, which features a championship course designed by Ernie Els. He is also an avid lover and supporter of South African music, and assisted many artists over the years to perform in Dullstroom (one night he even played air guitar with the lead guitarist from Mumford & Sons, at a well-known pub in Dullies…)
Del-Monte still holds the record for the highest value residential property sold in the Village, and also concluded the majority of the sales of vacant stands at Walkersons Private Residential Estate.
If you aspire to country living, then Del-Monte is the person to speak to.

Highland Gate Golf Estate is fast becoming one of the premier residential lifestyle estates in the northern parts of the country. The development is certainly gaining momentum – 41 vacant stands were sold in the last 2 years, whilst there are currently 16 building projects underway, a clear indication that investor confidence in the Estate is on the increase.
The Ernie Els designed course was rated no 21 in 2016, by Golf Digest magazine, which is remarkable for a course that is relatively new. It hosted the finals of the Els for Autism Golf days in November 2016 and now boasts 3 resident golf professionals, to assist you to fine tune your game.
The clubhouse is fully operational, with a bar, restaurant, lounge, patio, halfway house and conference facility – all with spectacular views of the lush green fairways.
But Highland Gate is not just about playing a round of golf – it now presents an experience for the whole family, with activities that include flyfishing, tennis, mountain biking, walking trails and birdwatching to name a few.
Its location, only 2.5 hrs from Gauteng, and proximity to all that Dullstroom has to offer, suggests that this Estate is perhaps a prime investment opportunity that needs serious consideration.
Resale stands start from as little as R 300,000 and with more than 1200 visitors per month enjoying a round of golf, there is definitely a need for accommodation on the Estate. A well-designed 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom house of approx. 220 sqm could easily be rented out for about R 4400-00 per night. Of course, you also have use of the house whenever you want! Reservation agencies like Dullstroom Accommodation handles all the bookings and marketing, while housekeeping services are available on site. We can put you in touch with local construction companies and architects, to get an idea of costing. If you would like a comprehensive tour of the Estate, just call the Zest Office

The unique feature of this property is the beauty of both its location, nestled in a basin between two hills with wonderful rock features, and with the very beautiful typically middleveldt flora. It is also home to indigenous game including klipspringer, duiker, and mountain rhebok. It is in a world of its own. The comment one often hears is how tranquil it is on this farm.
Th property also offers the opportunity of earning a reasonable living from small scale farming and from accommodation for “weekenders” and campers.
The land is approximately 112 hectares and can support a small herd of livestock, has arable land and there is a shed where the livestock take shelter overnight. The main house is recently renovated and has very spacious rooms. There are two, one room cottages with basic bathrooms, away from the main house and another six small rondavels being renovated to include en suite bathrooms. The camping site is located around an original sheep kraal so that the site is protected by ancient low stone walls but with magnificent views for miles across the farmlands. There are very nice ablutions that include four spacious toilets, two of which include a shower. There are extensive sheds, workshops and storerooms – something farmers can never have too many of! For sale at R2,500,000, for more information click here or give me a call 082 330 3503
